What I’m Grateful For: Books
All my life, books have been my closest companions. I remember the book that started it all – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Sitting on the kitchen table, it was a book that I was too young to read, I was just a beginner and still learning the very basics. But I remember staring at its mysterious, beckoning cover…. the tall dark trees, the towering castle, the white snow and the haunting moon. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I was obsessed. So I made myself learn to read as fast as I possibly could, just so I could explore that world.
Still to this day, a really good book delights me like nothing else. The opportunity to quietly leave this world and enter a new one, full of unexpected twists and turns and knowledge and ideas, is one of life’s greatest joys. Books, books, books. How I love you so!
What I’m Reading: The Distracted Mind by Adam Gazzaley and Larry Rosen. Written by a neuroscientist and a psychologist, this book explores the reasons WHY our brains are so innately distractible – think of our ancestors foraging for food while keeping an eye out for predators lurking behind every bush. It is pragmatic, straightforward and pleasantly well-written. I’m only a chapter in, so more next week.
