What I’m Grateful For: My Fan
Well, dear readers, this will be a brief one for me! It’s way too hot and I don’t have AC in my log cabin in the woods. Usually not a huge thing, but this week, it’s been a bit of a headache. So I have my little fan pointed right at my chair and I’m just plugging away at things. But you know what? It’s not a bad thing to sometimes take a minute to be grateful for something as simple, and as helpful, as a little green fan. Thank you fan.
What I’m Reading: The Filter Bubble by Eli Pariser. Really eye-opening and deeply concerning book about how little information we get that hasn’t been automatically “curated” for us by AI and algorithms. Even in places we would not immediately suspect, what we see is so tuned exactly to our likes, ideologies, political leanings, preferences and more – that we see a world, at least online, that is unique exactly to us. And the other people around us each are seeing their own world, created just for them. No wonder we are having a hard time finding common ground and common humanity – we aren’t even living in the same world anymore, in so many ways. Dangerous and disturbing. I encourage you to read.
