The end of the first week of the first month of 2018.

How are you? I’d love to hear. I’d love to know what you did to ring in the New Year, if you made resolutions or kissed someone you loved or got to watch a child’s face light up from fireworks or cheers… I would love to know!

What I’m grateful for– A new year. A clean slate. A fresh section in the notebook of my life. Looking back at the past year I am amazed at everything that happened… I did see some goals that I did not accomplish. But I also saw some new things I hadn’t even dreamed about a year ago that are flourishing now, and that’s a true delight. Now I get to write the story of 2018 – and I’ll be writing it with my kids, my partner, my team and…. with YOU! I chose my word for 2018 last weekend, and it’s ABUNDANCE. If you like that word, you are welcome to steal it for yourself too! Let’s make 2018 a year of ABUNDANCE for all!

What I’m reading- The 4 Disciplines of Execution by Sean Covey and others. I’ve read a fair number of books about business and strategy and getting things done…. so as I started reading this book, it felt like just another one of the step-by-step formula books that I’ve read and it didn’t overly impress me. However, as I worked with my team on planning out the next few months, I kept using key phrases from this book to illustrate what I was trying to convey, such as “lead goals vs. lag goals.” On Monday afternoon it really struck me how this book has some powerful language and concepts. I think anyone striving to create a successful team would do well to get a copy and refer to it often.

Tip from Nick- Start the New Year with a new acronym for success….The best structure for a call we have found that works for any buyer is LPMAMA. Use this structure by asking multiple questions in each category.

  • L – Location: what areas are you interested in living in?
  • P – Price: Do you have a price range in mind?
  • M – Motivation: Do you own a home or rent? Are you retiring? Having kids? What’s your why?
  • A – Working with an Agent: Do you already have an agent?
  • M – Mortgage or Cash
  • A – Appointment: When can we meet?

Random thing I’m mulling over- In the book from last week (Winter World) I read a lot about flying squirrels and I know that they SHOULD be around my woods. So I’m outside with my snowshoes looking for them and their football-sized nests when ever I have a chance….
